The Texas Corporate Recycling Council (TCRC) was founded in the eighties by Texas Land Commissioner Garry Mauro in order to:

    • Assist communities in establishing local recycling councils to serve their public and private sectors.

    • Help the councils achieve local goals by providing leadership, information and a forum for the exchange of ideas.

    • Promote growth of the recycling industry.

    • Stimulate demand for recycled products.

    • Support public policy that encourages recycling.

Today, that vision has grown to encompass more that just recycling. The TCRC is a public/private partnership of members who believe that the economic success of current and future generations depends on our ability to protect our environment now.

The TCRC is a nonpartisan, non-profit organization whose board of directors represent each of the local councils throughout the state, with additional representatives from the Texas General Land Office and the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission.

The economic aspects of corporate environmental awareness are not in conflict with profit margin. By reducing the amount of solid waste going into landfills, and the costs associated with disposal, companies are redirecting revenues to more productive areas.

As corporate interest in purchasing recycled products intensifies, industries are expanding to meet the demand. This surge in processing and manufacturing activity will give the Texas economy a boost in the coming decade.

Natural resources are conserved through recycling. Manufacturing products from reused materials requires less energy, lowers the cost of acquiring raw materials, and reduces pollution. Because of these factors, recycling can help reduce U.S. dependence on foreign fossil fuels and curb the consumption of other precious resources. Efficiency and economy are the hallmarks of this growing industry - both traits which are considerable advantages for Texas in the highly competitive global marketplace.
